If you have sat in Ashleigh Maki’s chair at Canterbury & Co., there is a
good chance you came in for color that grows out gracefully. Ashleigh is one
of our Advanced Stylists, and much of her book is gray coverage, soft
blending and lived-in color, very often on long hair.
She is happy to take on anything on our menu. But those are the appointments
clients keep coming back to her for, so this is a closer look at what each one
involves, and how to tell which is right for you.
Gray coverage and gray blending are different appointments
Gray coverage means the gray is covered completely. The color is formulated
so that the regrowth matches the rest of your hair and the gray does not show.
It suits you if you want one even color and are happy to keep a regular root
appointment.
Gray blending works with the gray instead of hiding it. Lighter pieces and
softer tones are placed so that new growth reads as part of the color rather
than as a line, which usually means a longer gap between appointments. Our
gray blending page goes into it in more depth.
Neither is the better choice. The right one depends on how much gray you have,
how you feel about it, and how often you want to be in the salon, and that is
exactly what the consultation is for.
What “lived-in” color means
Lived-in color is designed for the months after your appointment, not just the
day of it. The root is kept soft, brightness is placed where your hair falls
naturally, and the result is meant to look intentional as it grows. Balayage is
one way to get there; our balayage page explains how
we approach it.
Long hair takes planning
Long hair carries more history. Years of color, heat and Florida sun all show
up in the lengths, so color on long hair is planned around what is already
there, and the appointment is timed around your length and density. If you are
thinking about a change, bring photos of what you like and what you do not; it
makes the conversation quicker and more precise.
Smoothing, too
Ashleigh is also our Brazilian Blowout certified stylist, a natural partner
for long hair in Fort Myers humidity. Our
smoothing treatments page explains how it
compares with the other options we offer.
Booking with Ashleigh
Ashleigh is listed with the rest of the Canterbury team. As with every
stylist here, your first visit starts with an unhurried consultation, not a
menu; see what to expect as a new client before you book.
