What these treatments actually do
A smoothing treatment coats and reinforces the hair so the outer layer lies flat and stops drinking in moisture from the air. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why these services matter more here than almost anywhere: on the Gulf Coast the air is usually carrying more water than your hair is, so untreated hair swells and frizzes within minutes of going outside. Smoothing does not remove your texture. It stops the humidity from having the final say over it.
Why we keep three systems
Because one treatment cannot suit every head, and a salon that only offers one will always recommend it. Fine hair that wants movement kept, coarse hair that wants drying time cut in half, and a client who wants a genuinely straighter finish are three different briefs. We carry three certified systems so the answer can be the right one rather than the only one — including, sometimes, that you do not need a treatment at all.

These are three different treatments, not three names for the same thing, and each is performed by the stylists certified in it. If you have read conflicting things online, that is usually because an article has treated them as interchangeable.

That is genuinely a consultation question, not a menu one, because the honest answer depends on your texture, your hair’s condition, your color history and how much daily effort you actually want to remove. Will a smoothing treatment make my hair poker straight?
Not unless you ask for that, and on most hair we would talk you out of it. The point of every treatment here is to make your own texture behave in Gulf Coast humidity — less frizz, less time with a dryer, a surface that stays smooth when you step outside. Curls generally stay curls, just calmer and more defined. If you genuinely want a much straighter result, say so at the consultation and we will tell you honestly whether your hair can get there in one appointment.
How long does a smoothing treatment last in Florida?
Broadly a few months rather than a few weeks, and the range is wide because it depends on the system used, your hair, and how you wash it. What shortens it here is specific and local: sun, salt water, pool chlorine and sulfate shampoo all strip a treatment faster than anything else you do. A sulfate-free shampoo is the single biggest thing in your control, and your stylist will set an honest expectation for your hair rather than quoting a number off a box.
What is the first wash like?
Different by system, which is one of the reasons the consultation matters. Some treatments want you to wait before the first wash; others can be washed the same day. You will leave knowing exactly which applies to yours, what to use on it, and what to avoid — written down if you would like it. Getting the first few days right is most of what determines how long the result lasts.
Can I have a smoothing treatment if my hair is colored?
Usually yes, and plenty of our smoothing clients are color clients too. The sequencing matters, though, and it is the kind of thing that goes wrong when nobody plans it: whether color goes before or after, and how much time to leave between, depends on the system and the state of your hair. Book a consultation and we will map the order of appointments before anything is applied.
Do you treat frizz without a full smoothing treatment?
Often, yes. A gloss, the right cut, and a routine built for this climate solve a surprising amount of what people call frizz, and none of that requires a smoothing service. We would rather tell you that than sell you a treatment you do not need — which is the same reason every visit starts with a conversation.
