Back in the Classroom: Our Team's Bumble and bumble. Training Week
This week, our salon team heads back to the classroom. Not a metaphorical one — an actual Bumble and bumble. education course, with coursework, product science, and the kind of detail most people would never guess sits behind a bottle of shampoo. We book this time deliberately, in the middle of a busy season, because of a belief that runs through everything at Canterbury & Co.: you can’t give honest advice about products you only half understand.
Why a salon sends stylists back to school
There are two ways a salon can treat retail shelves. One is as decoration with a margin. The other is as an extension of the consultation — where the recommendation you leave with is as considered as the color formula you sat through. That second way takes ongoing education, because product lines evolve constantly: formulas get reworked, new categories appear, and last year’s knowledge quietly goes stale.
We’re proud to be a Bb.Exclusive Salon — an authorized stockist of the full Bumble and bumble. range — and the honest half of that sentence is the obligation it creates: if we carry the full range, the team needs to know the full range. Which brings us to what they’re actually studying this week.
The unglamorous hero: primers
This course spends serious time on a category most people skip entirely: primers — the step between towel and styling. Skincare made this idea familiar years ago; hair is catching up. A primer preps the hair so everything after it works better and lasts longer, and Bumble and bumble. builds them for specific jobs rather than one-size-fits-all:
- Bb. Prep — the lightweight everyday one: detangles, preps for styling, and refreshes without weighing hair down.
- Bb. Tonic — herbs, vitamins and tea tree oil; as much about refreshing the scalp as the hair.
- Bb. Curl Reactivator — the renamed curl primer (formerly the Curl Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer), blended with oils and butters to hydrate, cut frizz, and revive day-two curls with light hold.
- Bb. Thickening Go Big Treatment — the volume multi-tasker: plumps and adds body while detangling and protecting from heat.
- Bb. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer — the brand’s numbers on this one are striking: 86% more hydration, frizz cut by half, heat protection to 450°F, UV filters, and color protected from fading for up to 16 washes.
- Bb. Seaweed Oil Control Styling Primer — the newest addition, and the reason for the next section.
Six products, six different jobs. That’s precisely why training matters: “a primer” is not a recommendation. Which primer, for your hair, in this climate — that’s a recommendation.
The Seaweed story — practically written for Florida
The deepest module this week covers Bumble and bumble.’s Seaweed family, and it’s hard to imagine a line more relevant to Gulf Coast hair. If you live here, you know the pattern: heat and humidity push oil production, oil flattens fine hair by early afternoon, so you wash daily, which pushes oil production further. The Seaweed line is aimed squarely at that cycle.
Two details from the coursework we found genuinely useful:
The new Seaweed Oil Control Styling Primer is built to break the daily-wash loop — the brand’s clinical testing puts it at 48 hours of oil control, with nutrient-rich seaweeds and AHAs to smooth the cuticle, plus a Lactobacillus ferment aimed at keeping the scalp’s microbiome balanced. Lightweight hydration, no weigh-down — designed for exactly the fine, oil-prone hair that suffers most in a Florida August.
Two green bottles, two different jobs. Seaweed Oil Control Shampoo and the original Seaweed Shampoo look like siblings and behave like opposites. The Oil Control version is a purifying formula for fine hair and oil-prone scalps — daily washers whose style falls flat (the brand’s testing: cuts oil by over 60% all day). The original Seaweed Shampoo is balanced moisture for fine-through-thick hair that runs dry and wants shine. Grab the wrong green bottle and you’d be working against your own scalp — the kind of mix-up a trained eye catches in seconds.
What this means in the chair
None of this coursework exists so we can sell you more bottles. It exists so that when you describe your hair’s actual life — the daily washing, the 3pm flatness, the pool chlorine, the color you’d like to keep — your stylist can answer with something specific, and just as importantly, tell you what you don’t need. Our team takes real pride in that; it’s the same philosophy behind every consultation here.
So if your hair has a problem you’ve stopped believing is solvable — come tell us about it. Someone in this salon has just spent a week studying exactly that. Book a consultation and put the education to work.
